Carol: Dearest… is a 360-degree stereo video promo to Carol, the Weinstein Company’s film starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara.

Carol is a period piece taking place in the 50’s. It was shot in closed frames, on mono, 16mm grainy film. At Fake Love we designed a fantasy environment with relics from the film, combining 2D and 3D – and built a unique pipeline to achieve the look and feel of a period piece, but in immersive, believable 360-degree video.

Carol: Dearest…  was released alongside The New York Times Magazine’s annual “Great Performers” and iconic flight scenes issue, in which a VR film with an appearance from Carol actress Rooney Mara was added. The piece was one of the very first to be distributed from the launch of the NYT VR Google Cardboard app. At its launch, 1.3 million Google Cardboard headsets were delivered to print subscribers.
